You could then (assuming a summer visit) take a cable car to Maennlichen, walk to Kleine Scheidegg (1.5 hrs) and then train down to Lauterbrunnen (or walk part of way) and back to Interlaken and then Lucerne. Have a great time. There is one from Schnige Platte to First. You need to get the train from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen, change to the train for Wilderswill, then get a train from there to Schinge Platte. Think the walk takes about 6 hours. Once you've done the walk, you will need to take the gondala down to Grindelwald, then train/gondala back to Wengen. The big waterfall in Lauterbrunnen is accessible by car. In Wengen, you can walk from the station straight into the village and it's flat whereas Murren is a little hilly and involves a bit of a walk from the train into the village centre. You can also easily drive to Grindelwald or Thun, neither in the mountains but very pretty to visit and You can walk as far as you like and return by bus at various points along the trail. Wengen is at 4,300 ft and Lauterbrunnen is at about 2,500 ft. so the path is inclined up almost all the way from the bottom to the top. The walk directly down from the Männlichen to Wengen is steep down hill. I would not attempt that. I have done it a few times in the uphill direction, but would never consider doing it the other way. In stead hike from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg. If you want you can then continue direction Wengen via Wengeralp and Allmend. 3. Walk down from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen. Slightly steeper but an excellent path. A little more challenging. 1. Wengen south past Mary's cafe through Stalden and down to Trummelbach on the valley floor. 2.
