🎃 Land Rover 300Tdi Engine Problems
Oct 22, 2010. #3. there are good and bad with every manufacturer but the benefit you have with a lr is the parts prices are very reasonable. if you keep it well serviced/maintained it should be a good car and theres lots of help on here if you should run into trouble.
adjustable spanner. hammer (of course) angle grinder (in my case) a sharp knife. Slacken the 3 bolts holding the pulley to the power steering pump and water pump (you need both). Do this now to save you refitting the serpentine. Then use the adjustable spanner to take the tension off the belt and remove that too.
Mar 12, 2011. #4. My 110 300tdi has done 167000 (hard) miles, it feels comfortable cruising at 65mph (on the sat nav), it'll do over 70 but sounds like it's about to fall apart so I don't do this. To be honest mine could probably do with the valve clearances doing and the intercooler flushing (amongst other things)!

Posted March 20, 2016. Last year I took our 1994 Defender 110 CSW down to Rome over the alps. At the end of the long pull up hill the oil warning light flickered on. Once the engine had cooled it went off and we had no problems on the return journey to the UK (apparent from a cooked alternator!). Ihad no problems at all for the rest of the year
The 300 is undoubtedly a better engine. The 200 is basically a DI version of the old TurboD, with an alloy head and some other improvements. It had to be made on the same tooling as the TD to keep the costs down, so the block, crank etc is all the same as the older engine. The 300 has a redesigned block, crank, rods, pistons, and is generally a
Jul 5, 2022. #10. Al2O3 said: Looks like Miktdish has an L plate 300Tdi though. I do. Although it's a bitsa butchered together by Herefor4x4 from parts off a Series 3, a scrapped 200tdi 110 and other missmatched parts from thier extensive scrap heap. It does have a genuine, 2014, LR refurbed 300tdi (short) engine though, which now i've replaced
mmgemini. Having experienced no oil pressure on a 300Tdi that was fitted with a proper oil pressure gauge, I suggest you get a mechanical gauge and fit it. If there is still no oil pressure then come back. Don't bother to fit the gauge into the truck. Leave it by the engine for the time being.
There is also an electric a plug on the Fip that is not connected, and there is no harness to it. If I accelerate gently there is no smoke. If I apply more than (say) 75 % throttle, there is black smoke. If the throttle is held steady, this smoke gradually diminishes as the vehicle speed / revs rise. The vehicle has always felt fairly spritely
The 300 TDI measured from same point at the rear of the block as the V-6 will just touch the fan shroud of the existing radiator. The 300 is a longer engine. I am planning on using a radiator/ intercooler set up from a series LR. The oil pans and pick ups are different on the South American 2.8 power strokes.
Aside from a few teething problems, the Td5 is a quieter Land Rover engine, performs better at high crusing speeds, and has very similar overall performance. However, Land Rover still retained the 300Tdi for export models and the military. Td5 service kit. Check out this list of items that are required as a "service kit" for the Td5.
Aug 18, 2004. #1. Im planning to buy a mid 90s 300tdi disco for a daily runabout, eventually for expeditions. For simplicity and ease of repair, I dont want any electronic engine management so am steering clear of the TD5. But I think I read somewhere that the later 300tdi engine has some sort of electric engine management.
